Tavorly keeps one authoritative version of every recipe your kitchens cook from, and puts it on the line without anybody printing anything.

Five pieces do that work.

Recipes

A recipe is the unit everything else is built from. It holds what goes in it, how it is made, what it must never be served without, and — where food safety depends on it — the control points a manager signs off.

Every recipe carries two faces of the same information. Front of House sees the menu description, the selling points and the ingredient names, with no measurements. Heart of House sees the quantities and the method. They are not two recipes to keep in step; they are one recipe, shown twice.

Prep

Prep recipes are the building blocks — a sauce, a brine, a spice blend — that production recipes are made from. They behave exactly like recipes, and they can be used inside other recipes, so changing a brine once changes it everywhere it is used.

Menus

A menu is a named set of recipes, and it has versions. A version has a start date, so the autumn menu can be built weeks ahead and simply begin. Individual stores can pin a different version, or add and remove single items, without forking the menu itself.

Locations and devices

Each store is a location. Each iPad on the line is a recipe viewer enrolled to a store, and it only shows menus that store has been given access to. Stores can also hold manager PINs, which is what makes a critical control point signable by a named person rather than by whoever is holding the tablet.

The line

The line is what a cook actually sees: a dark, full-screen view of the menus their store is running, with search, and a large, unmissable panel wherever a step carries a control point.

How work moves

A recipe is written, reviewed, and published. Publishing puts it on the menus it belongs to, and every viewer at every store running that menu sees it — with a NEW badge until somebody on the line marks it read.
