Enrolling a recipe viewer

A recipe viewer is a tablet on a location’s line running the cook-facing view. It is not a personal login — it belongs to the location, and it stays signed in so nobody has to type anything during service.

Recipe viewers live on the location’s own page, under Recipe viewers. They are numbered in the order you add them, and a retired number is never reused, so “Device 2” means the same screen to everyone forever.

Enrolling one

1. Open the location and press Add recipe viewer.
2. Tavorly shows a one-time code — eight characters, e.g. AW7QS5U5 — with the device number it belongs to.
3. On the tablet, go to /enroll on your Tavorly address and enter the code.

The code expires in 15 minutes and is not recoverable. That is deliberate: it is the one secret that puts a screen inside your brand. If it expires or you lose it, press Issue code on that device for a fresh one — you do not need to start over or create a second device.

⚠ Enrol the tablet from the tablet. Signing a device in replaces whatever session that browser held, so enrolling from your own laptop signs you out of the admin app. On the iPad this is exactly what you want; on your own machine it is a surprise.

What the statuses mean

• AWAITING DEVICE — created, code issued, nothing has enrolled yet. Reads “Not enrolled yet”, and its button says Issue code.
• IDLE — enrolled but has not been used. Reads “Enrolled · no activity yet”, and its button says Replace.

The button changing from Issue code to Replace is how you can tell, at a glance, whether a screen ever actually connected.

Shows: Front of House, Heart of House, or both

Each viewer has a Shows setting — Both, Front of House only, or Heart of House only.

This is how one recipe serves two audiences. A Front of House screen shows ingredient names so a server can answer “what’s in it”; a Heart of House screen shows quantities and the procedure so a cook can make it. Set a host-stand tablet to Front of House only and it will never show build quantities.

Replacing and retiring

Replace issues a new code for the same device number. Use it when a tablet is swapped, wiped or lost — the number, its Shows setting and its history stay put, and the old device stops being that viewer once the new one enrols.

Retire removes the viewer for good. Its number is never reused, so retiring Device 1 means the next one you add is Device 2. Prefer Replace for a swapped tablet and keep Retire for a screen that is genuinely gone.

Nothing on the screen?

An enrolled viewer with no menus shows “No menus are assigned to this device yet”. Enrolling a device does not grant it any menus — that is a separate, deliberate decision. See Menu access.
