Recipe groups
The buckets recipes organise into — separately for Front of House, Heart of House and Prep.
Recipe groups is where you decide how recipes are bucketed — and, importantly, that the three views bucket differently on purpose. Its subtitle: “The buckets recipes organize into, per view. Rename each set and its buckets to match how your team talks.”
There are three independent sets:
| set | what it groups by | why |
|---|---|---|
| Front of House grouping | how a guest reads a menu | courses, sections — Starters, Mains |
| Heart of House grouping | where the work happens | stations — Fry, Grill, Pantry |
| Prep grouping | how prep is organised | when and where it is made |
The same recipe therefore appears under Mains to a server and under Fry to a cook, from one record. That is the point of having three sets rather than one list of categories.
Renaming a set
Rename set changes what the whole grouping is called, not its contents — so if your team says “stations” for front of house and “sections” for the line, say that. The labels follow your language, the same as viewer labels.
Buckets
Within each set, Add creates a bucket. Existing buckets show:
- a drag handle to reorder them — order is what the view uses, so this is how you put Starters above Mains rather than alphabetically
- a recipe count, e.g. 1 recipe
- Save for a rename
- Archive to retire it
An empty set reads No menu sections yet or No prep sections yet with “Add one below”.
Archiving rather than deleting
Archive retires a bucket and keeps the record. Recipes previously in it are not deleted — but they do lose their grouping, so check the recipe count before archiving. Archiving a bucket holding 30 recipes leaves 30 recipes ungrouped, and they will show as unassigned on the line and in your dashboard’s station breakdown.
Reassign first, archive second.
Ordering is a service decision
Reordering buckets reorders what a cook scrolls past. Put the busiest station first in the Heart of House set — during service, the difference between the first bucket and the fourth is real time at the pass.
